BEING CLARA, AN INTERVIEW WITH BAY POINTE BALLET SCHOOL STUDENT, MEGUMI.

EF: What was your reaction when you learned you landed the role of “Clara” ?

MY: I was surprised and was practically jumping up and down.

EF: Were you nervous during the audition?
MY: I was a bit nervous during the auditions because I was one of the oldest ones there and there were lots of other girls my age too.
EF: The role of Clara demands a dancer who is very expressive on stage. She goes through so many emotions through out the ballet. Aside from the dancing aspect, how are you preparing your character?
MY: I try putting myself as Clara at home and I act as how I think she does. I sometimes even practice with my younger sister! Her being Fritz and I being Clara.

EF: Many young girls aspire to one day dance the role of Clara. What advice would you give to the girls that are looking up to you?

MY: Never give up on dancing, because if you work hard, you can achieve greater goals.  Dancing is so much fun.
EF: You will be sharing the stage with the company dancers. Are you more intimidated or excited about that?
MY: I am very very excited to work with company dancers! I’m also excited to work with my teachers.
EF: What is your favorite ballet?
MY: My favorite ballet is definitely Don Quixote.
EF:  What are your interests outside of Ballet?
MY: I do play the oboe and I do like reading.
EF:  How was it that you began training in Ballet? How many years have you been studying?
MY:  My mom signed me up at a recreation center and I just fell in love with ballet. I have danced for 9 years.
EF: Do you have a role model(s) or someone you really look up to?
MY: Svetlana Zakharova of the Bolshoi Ballet is definitely my role model.
EF:  What are some of your dance goals for this year?
One of my dance goals is to have better turn out and be more flexible.  Another goal of mine is to do at least 16 Grand Fouette En Tournant or even more!
